"The future is unknowable, but the past should give us hope."
- Winston Churchill
Welcome to seventh grade! I’m excited about this school year and look forward to our journey through Texas history. I’m from Pearland (native Texan!), and although it sounds cliché, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I attended Trinity University in San Antonio for four years as an undergraduate and obtained a B.A. in History and Composite Social Studies. I then returned to Trinity for a fifth year and earned my M.A. in Teaching. Now I’m thrilled to be back in the Houston area and teaching at Lanier Middle School!
On my first day of seventh grade, I remember looking down at my schedule and thinking, Texas history? How boring. Do I really need to spend an entire school year learning about ONE state? As it turned out, I quickly changed my opinion after realizing how rich Texas’s history is. While I may be a bit biased, I personally believe Texas is the most unique state and maybe even one of the most extraordinary places in the world. I don’t want to give too much away here, but for now, I’ll say that Texas is extremely diverse in more ways than one. Stay tuned!
As much as I love Texas, I have a passion for traveling and seeing other parts of the world. A dream of mine is to visit all 50 states in my lifetime (I’m nowhere near close, now!). I also enjoy exploring other countries. In 2011, I lived in London for five months and immersed myself in European history. Experiencing life in other areas of the world has deepened my love of history and my appreciation for what a special place Texas is.
When I’m not teaching or traveling, I spend my time with my friends and family which includes my dog, Pepper. I’m a huge San Antonio Spurs fan (sorry, Rockets fans!) and try to see them whenever I can. I also enjoy reading, hiking, archery, attending concerts, playing games, meeting new people, and discovering new places in the city. I am sure this is going to be a great year, and I can’t wait to get to know you all!
